Frequently Asked Questions

What are O-Feel® rings used for?

O-Feel® are two soft medical-grade silicone rings that ensure a perfect fit and added comfort for Silverette® cups.

How do you clean Silverette®?

Silver has natural antimicrobial properties and does not need to be sterilized. Between uses, you can rinse them with warm water and mild soap to remove any milk residue. Avoid placing them in a sterilizer or dishwasher, boiling them, or exposing them to chemicals or antiseptics, as these can damage the silver.

I had put the Silverette® away for a while, and now they have dark spots on them. Is that normal?

Over time, silver naturally oxidizes, which does not affect the product’s safety. To restore the original shine to your Silverette®, make a paste from baking soda and a small amount of water. Carefully rub it onto the cups, rinse thoroughly, and dry them with a soft towel.

Do my nipples need to air out?

The healing benefit of moist wound healing results from the faster proliferation and migration of epithelial cells into the wound in a moist but clean environment. However, some mothers prefer to wear Silverette® only during the day and take breaks, especially when they have an increased milk flow.

Have any scientific studies been conducted?

Before Silverette® was launched on the market, a two-year study on its safety and efficacy was completed at the University Hospital of Padua, Italy.

Silver ions have powerful antimicrobial properties and, at the same time, extremely low toxicity. Silver’s effectiveness can be compared to that of a broad-spectrum antibiotic, without causing microbes to develop resistance. It is worth noting that there are no side effects on human cells, apart from an extremely rare allergy to silver.

Scientific studies involving breastfeeding women showed that Silverette® helps irritated or injured nipples heal faster and significantly reduces pain.

Participants reported high satisfaction with their use, and no local or systemic adverse reactions were recorded.

Why are Silverette® made of 925 silver and not 999 silver?

925 sterling silver is the purest form of silver that can be forged. With 999 silver, only silver plating is possible, which means the item is made of another material and coated with a thin layer of silver (trilaminate). An item made of 999 silver is more fragile and may cause allergies.

Our silver is certified and complies with all applicable laws and international guidelines. Silverette® products contain no nickel.

 Beware of imitations.

Can I wear the Silverette® nursing cups as a preventive measure or underneath absorbent nursing pads?

Yes, we recommend using Silverette® preventively from day one, as they cool the skin and protect against friction from clothing. It’s a good idea to pack them in your hospital bag!

If you have a heavy milk flow, place nursing pads over the Silverette®. A nursing bra will hold them in place.

Low Waste

Silverette® is a low-waste product that replaces all plastic or disposable breastfeeding aids, as it lasts forever without losing its healing properties.

Control

Silverette® cups are handcrafted and individually inspected by silversmiths in Italy. Each cup has a patented rounded edge for an ergonomic fit. They are carefully checked at every stage of production so we can guarantee maximum safety for you and your children.

Safety

Silverette® is a Class I medical device – Regulation (EU) 2017/745. They comply with Law 5.02.1934, which concerns the double hallmark on silver products, and have been notified to the National Organization for Medicines (93310/06-10-2021).
